One of the complexities of Allen Engineering suppressors are the various mounting styles. While all AE suppressors are reflex, some of them require different mounting lengths. The mounting length is measured from the muzzle to the taper. It is important to know how much barrel your suppressor will require so you don’t have a gasblock or handguard preventing proper mounting.Â
These mounting styles all require the use of a collar which hosts the taper. Do not try to use an Allen Engineering suppressor without a collar.Â
Brake Mounted Styles
A majority of AE suppressors require an AE/OPS style muzzle device for proper mounting. Many manufacturers make AE/OPS style muzzle devices such as Forward Controls, Spikes Tactical, and Smith Enterprise, but the most common one is the OPS INC muzzle brake.Â
The muzzle devices are threaded for specific thread pitches (1/2×28 & 5/8×24), but the external threads remain the same (M22x1). This makes it possible for any brake mounted AE suppressor to mount on any AE/OPS style muzzle device.Â
A-Mount: This mount is used by the AEM5, AEM5k, AEM5-30, and AEM5-30k. It requires 2.5″ from the muzzle to the taper for proper mounting. Simply put, if it has an “AEM5” prefix regardless of caliber or configuration, its going to be an A-Mount.
B-Mount: This mount is used by the AEM2, AEM3, and AEM4. It requires 2.05″ from the muzzle to the taper for proper mounting. Most of the “newer” models of suppressors have a B-Mount because of how many more mounting options are possible.
Â
PLEASE NOTE: All brake mounted AE suppressors require 7-10 turns for proper engagement. If you try mounting A-mount and B-mount suppressors on the incorrect mount style you can potentially damage them.
Direct Thread Styles
There are a few AE suppressors that are direct thread. The direct thread suppressors have mounting styles unique to themselves.Â
M4: This mounting style is used by the M4 suppressor and is direct thread onto 1/2×28 barrels. It requires 4.4″ from the muzzle to the taper. This mounting style requires the use of the 3-piece long collar.
M24: This mounting style is used by the M24 suppressor and is direct thread onto 5/8×24 barrels. It requires 4.52″ from the muzzle to the taper. M24 builds often have the taper profiled into the barrel, but it can also work with collars.

Excellent reference chart. Very helpful for building new projects.
For an A mount, do I need to trim the barrel to install the collar, or will the original manufacturer’s barrel work?
